• A small dotting tool

Step 1

Paint the nails with the pale blue or any other pastel colour. You will probably need two coats to achieve a smooth finish.

Step 2

Use the dotting tool to place dots in the corner of each nail, trying to make the ones further from the corner slightly smaller.

Finally, clean up around the nails and apply a top coat to prevent chips.

Half black nails!

I used:

• 'Collection 2000 Nail Care Top Coat'
• 'Rimmel Lasting Finish 080 Black Cab'
• 'Maybelline New York 825 Oh So Close'
• 'Collection 2000 103 French White'
• A small, metal banded paintbrush
• Nail Varnish remover
• Tape
• Small dotting tool

Step 1

Paint your nails with the clear varnish. Leave the nails for a fairly long time to dry before doing the next step or you'll just pull it straight off again.

Step 2

Cover half of the nail with the tape and paint the uncovered bit with the black. Remove the tape immediately or it will stick to the varnish and pull it off.

Step 3

Using the paintbrush, paint silver down the dividing line between the black and clear.

Step 4

Using the small dotting tool, paint white dots on the black half of the nail.

Finally, clean up around the nails and cover them in a top coat to seal in the design.

Step 1

Paint your nails with yellow. This particular yellow stains like crazy so either use a white or clear base coat before putting on the yellow.

Step 2

Sponge the pink over the two thirds of your nail closest to the base. This will make a mess of your fingers which you can either clean up after each stage or you can wait and do it at the end.

Step 3

Sponge the purple over the bottom third of your nail.

Finally, cover the nails with a top coat to seal in the design and clean up around them.

Blue and White Stripes!

Blue and White Striped Nails!

• 'Collection 2000 103 French White'
• '17 Heartbeat'
• '17 Seabreeze'
• 'Barry M Confetti Nails Liquorice' (optional)
• 'Collection 2000 Nail Care Top Coat'
• Sticky tape

Step 1

Paint some of your nails white and the rest with the pale blue. I chose to do them randomly although you could do alternating nails in opposite colours if you wanted.

 

Step 2

Paint a free hand line of the opposite colour down the nail. Wait a little longer than you would normally between these two steps to reduce the risk of getting the colours mixed together. 

Step 3

Cut the tape into lots of long, thin strips and put them somewhere easy to pick up (I used the edge of the roll of tape). They need to be long enough that they will stick off both ends of your nails (making it easier for you to peel them back off!).

Step 4

Wait for ages for your nails to dry or the tape will pull off the varnish! Then, one nail at a time, stick the pieces of tape across  the nail randomly. Make sure you remember what order you stick on the pieces and leave an end hanging over the edge of the nails so you can pull it off easily. Paint over the whole nail with the dark blue and immediately remove the tape in the opposite order to the order you stuck them on. This is quite messy so make sure you have a tissue on hand to wipe your fingers and some nail varnish remover for the stubborn bits! Repeat for all the other nails.

Step 5

Cover the nails in the top coat to seal the design in and clean up the mess around the top (which is inevitable).

Step 6 (optional)

I originally wanted to cover the nails in the confetti varnish instead of the clear top coat however the confetti turned out thicker than I anticipated and it ended up looking messy. I was aiming for something like the little finger below but instead I pretty much covered up the design. However, if you would like to give it a try, feel free!

• 'Barry M 54 Clear'
• A make up sponge

Step 1

Paint your nails with the white. Don't worry if it is messy, you can clean it up at the end either with a cotton bud and nail varnish remover or you can peel it off!

Step 2

Paint your nails with the purple. You'll probably only need one coat as this is quite a dark varnish.

Step 3

 Use the sponge to dab some dark blue across the nails. You don't need to be particularly neat about this, it's just to make the sky look more than one colour.

Step 4

Use the sponge to dab on some of the middle shade of blue (the Rimmel one). You want to put this so it will be under where the lightening strike will go so make some nails have one branch and others have two or three.

Step 5

Use the sponge to dab some of the palest blue down the centre of the previous blue stripes.

Step 6

Use the pen to draw the lightening strikes down the centre of each blue stripe. Put a little bit of white at the top of each nail too, like the bottom of a cloud.

Paint over the nails with the clear to seal in the design and, finally, clean up around the nails to make them look neat.

• Sticky tape

Step 1

Paint your nails with the colour you would like to be closest to the base of the nail. For both of these designs I chose the purple. 

Step 2

Stick the tape over part of the nail closest to the base. The distance depends on how many stripes you want on your nails; the more stripes, the closer it needs to be to the base of the nail. I stuck mine at an angle however you could just as easily make it straight. Then paint the section which isn't covered by the tape. You will need to remove the tape fairly quickly after painting it or it will pull off the varnish. For the 2 stripe one I chose gold as my other colour and for the 3 stripe one I chose silver.

Step 3

Repeat this as many times as you want stripes! For my 3 stripe one I chose gold as the final colour.

Finally, paint over each nail with the top coat to seal in the design and clean up around the nails to make them look neat.

Wavy split nails!

• 'H&M Super Glitter'

• Thin detail brush
• Small dotting tool

Step 1

Paint your nails white. Don't worry if it is messy, you can clean it up at the end either with a cotton bud and nail varnish remover or you can peel it off!

Step 2

Paint your nails yellow. If you're using a thicker gold then you might not need the yellow; I only used it because my gold was quite thin and I didn't want to use loads of coats!

Step 3 

Paint over the yellow with the gold.

Step 4

Paint one third of each nail with the red. Don't worry about making the line perfect you're going to cover over it with the wavy detail anyway.

Step 5

Paint the wavy line using the red and the detail brush. Alternatively, you can paint all of the red section in one go, using the detail brush.

Step 6

Paint over the red section with the sparkly red. If you want, you can use the detail brush for this but it doesn't really matter either way. I just used the brush that came with the varnish.

Step 7

Using the dotting tool, gold dots on the red side.If you want, you can use a larger dotting tool closer to the divide and a smaller one further away but I decided to just use a small one for all the dots.

Paint over the nails with the clear to seal in the design and, finally, clean up around the nails to make them look neat.
