TARDIS nails | 1 day to go!

TARDIS in Space Nails!

Rating: ****

Finished nails
Tools
I used:
  • 17 Navy Glint
  • Rimmel 60 Seconds 819 Green With Envy
  • Collection Work the Colour 24 Fairy Dust
  • Rimmel Space Dust 006 Moon Walking
  • La Femme Electra 98
  • Collection 2000 2 in 1 Strengthener and Hardener
  • Make up sponge
  • 2 small pictures of TARDISs, printed and then cut out

Step 1

Paint your nails with the Navy nail varnish.

Step 2

Using the sponge, dab on some of the green on part of the nail. Do it in a different place on each nail but don't cover more than half of each nail.

Step 3

Using the sponge, dab on some of the pale blue on top of the green. Don't cover all the green up though.

Step 4

Using the sponge, dab some of the purple space dust onto a different part of the nail.

Step 5

Cover the whole design in the sparkly nail varnish. Make sure you get a couple of the large sparkles onto each nail but you don't want them to clump together or it's too overpowering.

Step 6

Paint a stripe of clear top coat on the nail you want the TARDIS on and immediately place the picture on it. You will need to hold it down until the nail varnish is almost dry to make sure all the corners are stuck. We found that tweezers can be quite useful at this stage.

Step 7

Cover all the nails in a coat of clear nail varnish to smooth it out and protect the design. Take particular care over the TARDIS to make sure it is firmly stuck or it will get caught on things and pull off.

Van Gogh style TARDIS nails | 6 days to go!

Doctor Who Themed Nails!

This design is based off this painting in the Matt Smith episode 'Vincent and the Doctor'. It is quite an arty design this time so, if you're not confident with acrylic paint, maybe find someone who is or give this one a miss for the time being.

Acrylic Paints

I used:
  • Rimmel 703 White Hot Love
  • 011 White acrylic paint
  • 159 Primary Blue acrylic paint
  • 026 Black acrylic paint
  • 603 Primary Yellow acrylic paint
  • 690 Yellow Ochre acrylic paint
  • 201 Burnt Sienna acrylic paint
  • 123 Ultra Marine acrylic paint
  • Small metal tipped paintbrush
  • Collection 2000 Nail Care Top Coat

Step 1

Paint your nails with the base coat to protect your nails from the paint and to make it easier to remove later.

Step 2

Put a few blobs of the blue, black and white acrylic paint into a palette for easy mixing.

Step 3

Paint the background on each nail. Plan ahead so you know where the swirls will go and try and keep the parts which will be yellow paler to make it easier to add the yellow on top. It doesn't matter how neat it is either - have a copy of the painting handy so you can match the Van Gogh style as closely as possible. Don't forget to decide which nail your TARDIS will go on first so you can have the swirls radiating from that point. I decided to put mine on the middle finger of my left hand.

Step 4

Paint over the paler sections with the yellow. Make sure the blue is dry first otherwise you're in danger of getting smudges though. Leave the finger with the TARDIS on for the time being.

Step 5

Add the TARDIS to your chosen finger along with the explosion.

Step 6

Cover over the nails with a top coat to prevent chipping and to make them shiny as acrylic paint is decidedly dull on it's own.

Galaxy Nails!

Galaxy Nails!
(based on this design by Caz)

Rating: ***

Finished nails
Tools
I used:
  • 'Collection 2000 Manicure 103 French White'
  • '17 Heartbeat'
  • '17 Seabreeze'
  • '17 Navy Glint'
  • 'Rimmel 60 seconds 610 Pompous'
  • 'Collection 2000 12 Minx'
  • 'Barry M 245'
  • 'Collection 2000 Nail Care Top Coat'
  • A sponge
Step 1

Paint your nails with the navy blue. Don't worry if it is messy, you can clean it up at the end either with a cotton bud and nail varnish remover or you can peel it off!

Step 2

Sponge a line of  white across the nail. This is the basis for your galaxy so chose the shape wisely. You could have identical galaxies on each finger or you could chose a different shape for each nail. I chose to have different shaped galaxies on each nail.

Step 3

Sponge a line of pale blue down the center of the white section

Step 4

Sponge a line of slightly darker blue down the center of the galaxy

Step 5

Sponge a small amount of navy blue down the center of the galaxy

Step 6

Sponge some purple (the Rimmel one) down the center of the galaxy

Step 7

Sponge some of the other purple down the center of the galaxy

Step 8

Sponge a tiny amount of gold into the center of each galaxy

Step 9

Paint over each nail with the top coat to seal in the design.

Finally, clean up around the nails to make them look neat.
