Van Gogh style TARDIS nails | 6 days to go!

Doctor Who Themed Nails!

This design is based off this painting in the Matt Smith episode 'Vincent and the Doctor'. It is quite an arty design this time so, if you're not confident with acrylic paint, maybe find someone who is or give this one a miss for the time being.

Acrylic Paints

I used:
  • Rimmel 703 White Hot Love
  • 011 White acrylic paint
  • 159 Primary Blue acrylic paint
  • 026 Black acrylic paint
  • 603 Primary Yellow acrylic paint
  • 690 Yellow Ochre acrylic paint
  • 201 Burnt Sienna acrylic paint
  • 123 Ultra Marine acrylic paint
  • Small metal tipped paintbrush
  • Collection 2000 Nail Care Top Coat

Step 1

Paint your nails with the base coat to protect your nails from the paint and to make it easier to remove later.

Step 2

Put a few blobs of the blue, black and white acrylic paint into a palette for easy mixing.

Step 3

Paint the background on each nail. Plan ahead so you know where the swirls will go and try and keep the parts which will be yellow paler to make it easier to add the yellow on top. It doesn't matter how neat it is either - have a copy of the painting handy so you can match the Van Gogh style as closely as possible. Don't forget to decide which nail your TARDIS will go on first so you can have the swirls radiating from that point. I decided to put mine on the middle finger of my left hand.

Step 4

Paint over the paler sections with the yellow. Make sure the blue is dry first otherwise you're in danger of getting smudges though. Leave the finger with the TARDIS on for the time being.

Step 5

Add the TARDIS to your chosen finger along with the explosion.

Step 6

Cover over the nails with a top coat to prevent chipping and to make them shiny as acrylic paint is decidedly dull on it's own.
